Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Will my tractor be suitable for a FARMFORCE post driver?
A. Our machines are built tough to withstand all that it is required of them. They are constructed of a heavy duty frame and components. While only a small amount of horse power is needed to run one, your tractor may need to be of a physical size capable of balancing this implement. Weight can be an issue with smaller tractors when any implement is attached to the TPL. Smaller tractors fitted with loaders are quite suitable with the added weight in the front end. Additional weight can be added to the front of your tractor without large expense.

Q. Should I buy a hydraulic or cable (PTO) operated post driver?
A. If your tractor is fitted with remote hydraulics we would suggest a hydraulically operated post driver. However a PTO operated machine is every much as proficient with driving posts. Augers and hydraulic rams can be added to hydraulic machines while only rams for tilt and angle can be added to a cable machine.

Q. What about cable life with a PTO machine?
A. Cable and winch systems are widely used in all manner of functions related to lifting objects.
As with cranes and high rise lifts a similar system principal is applied to our machines.
Good spool control and cable management gives cables a long life. A quick inspection to check the cables condition is recommended.
No cable should ever inexpediently break. (Remember this next time you are coming down from the 87th floor!!)

Q. How big a post will it drive?
A. The size (diameter) of the post is largely dependant on the soil type. We suggest that a 12" or 300mm blunt post can be driven into soils with average moisture content. In saying this, the same could be driven into hard ground after boring a pilot hole. The harder the ground the larger the pilot hole. Consider other options?

Q. How tall a post will it drive?
A. Our tallest machines lifts the weight to 14' (4.2m) requiring at least 12" (300mm) of fall.
Custom machines winch and cable systems allow for taller (in excess to 4.2meters) to be constructed. Driving to ground level can be achieved with either and extension dolly or custom machine which will drive posts to ground level.

Q. How straight can it drive a post?
A. A positive post clamping system and lower guide ensures a vertical post. If the fence line layout is accurate then a straight line of posts can be achieved easily.

Q. Do I have to dig a hole first?
A. In extremely hard conditions it may be advisable to dig a pilot hole especially for strainer posts. Under normal conditions a pilot hole or pointing the post is unnecessary. We produce big machines with big hitting power. Don't throw away good wood. Why cut large slices off each side of a post? This dramatically decreases the life and it won't stay tight anyway.
